Faced with a knitting pattern's instructions to loosely bind off the hem of a cardigan, I searched YouTube for a tutorial.
Previously, I had followed VeryPink Knits‘ Simple Stretchy Bind Off for the neckline of a baby sweater. This worked well, but it did result in a bit of flaring out when the garment was not being worn.
After sifting through several videos, I found a technique which promised stretchiness without the flaring: How To: Lori's Twisty Bind Off by New Leaf Podcast (Carmen) (tutorial begins at 4:05).
The video description credits Lorraine LeGrand with creating this method – "Lori's Twisty Bind Off" – in 2013. The technique is straightforward, simply requiring a twist to the loop before each stitch. I'm pleased with the result and will likely use this technique in the future.
